Alternative loans for education are offered by both for-profit and not-for-profit lenders. These loans are not guaranteed by the federal government and should be used to supplement other financial aid. The NC Assist Student Loan and the NC Assist Parent Loan, offered by College Foundation Inc., are both guaranteed by the State of North Carolina and are competitive options to federal student loans.
